RMIT STUDENT DOMINATES AT TISA AWARDS 2011
Ms. Havekotte took out the Grand Prize at the Textile Institute of Southern Australia's recent student design awards.
The judging panel was made up of local and international design professionals and alumni of the Paris American Academy, where Ms. Havekotte will attend a four-week course.
She also won the Audience Prize - a cash prize awarded to the student whose work received the most votes from guests at the awards night.
The ceremony was attended by 2010 Grand Prize winner and RMIT alumnus Jacinta Demetriou, who displayed designs from her recent internships in Paris.
Living in Paris and working with esteemed fashion professionals was "surreal, indulgent and eye-opening all at the same time," Ms. Demetriou said.
"I was taught millinery techniques by the head milliner for Jean Paul Gaultier, haute couture techniques by the two longest-standing ateliers under Madame Gres, tailoring by an atelier for Yves Saint Laurent and hand-sewing techniques from a Nina Ricci atelier," she said.
The Textile Institute of Southern Australia is a professional organization for members of the textile, fashion and footwear industries.
Its annual student awards recognize Australia's best new design talent and attract competitors from tertiary institutions Australia-wide.
